Junior Leadership Class of 2026:
Poverty & Philanthropy Day

What a powerful and meaningful day for our Junior Leaders.
During the Poverty Simulation, students stepped into the lives of individuals and families facing poverty and were challenged to navigate a simulated month with limited resources. Assigned different identities—from single parents to senior citizens—participants experienced firsthand the difficult decisions, barriers, and pressures that many low-income families face every day.
This immersive experience, grounded in real stories, encouraged students to move beyond assumptions and gain a deeper understanding of how poverty impacts individuals, families, and communities.
Thank you to Western Reserve Masonic Community for hosting us and providing breakfast. Students also took on the challenge of a $3.20 poverty-inspired lunch, offering a tangible look at the realities of budgeting for food.
The day concluded at Feeding Medina County, where students turned understanding into action by:
- Packing over 200 Weekender Bags
- Sorting dozens of canned goods
- Supporting local families in need
This experience was designed to build awareness, empathy, and perspective—and our students rose to the moment. The day offered an important opportunity to better understand the challenges faced by many individuals and families in Medina County.
