LMC Class 2010, Health Care, Human Services Day

“Healthy” was the theme in the morning as Medina Hospital, A Cleveland Clinic Hospital, hosted a health fair and provided a “healthy” breakfast for class members. Many agencies participating in the Health Fair offered health screenings and wellness information as the class completed a scavenger hunt.
Following the fair, the CEOs of the county hospitals, Thom Whelan, ’03 Lodi Hospital, Jim Pope, Summa Wadsworth Rittman Hospital, and Rob Stall,’10 Medina Hospital discussed competition, collaboration, and current health care “reform” with class members.

The next stop was the Medina Creative Living complex on Huntington Street in Medina, where residents proudly opened their new apartments to touring class members. Executive Director, Dianne DePasquale-Hagerty,’06, explained the mission of Medina Creative Hosing and unveiled a HUD produced video of interviews with families touched by the independence this apartment complex gave their special needs adult children. HUD produced the video to showcase this complex which is HUD’s National Award Winner.
Also participating was Commissioner Pat Geissman,’00 who outlined many initiatives including her recent collaboration with county food pantries. |

The “healthy” theme continued at the Medina County Health Department hosted the rest of the day. Janet Gammel,’10, Theresa Schlaugh’10, Kristen Hildreth, 08 and Dr. Dan Raub ’04, presented a few of the many services offered by the Health Department. Gail Carmon,’98, illustrated, through a power point, the variety of mental health services available to county residents.

The class concluded the day by discussing the "featured" leadership competencies of compassion and team building which were demonstrated throughout the day. Then it was on to the serious work of the class project, "Resources for Troubled |
