Active in local affairs, Marcus has served as trustee, president, and often the founding member of many arts organizations and committees for the schools and our community, including Medina Co. Arts Council, and Medina Co. Performing Arts Foundation.
He created and implemented the Medina County Schools Fine Arts Tours which over the years provided a "first-time" live art performance for over 800,000 students in the county's seven school districts. He has also provided solo and ensemble contests, and summer performing camps for students.
Currently he serves as an assistant lecturer in the College of Education, U of Akron, and is a part time lecturer in the Music Department of Case Western Reserve University. He started his career as the director of Medina HS bands which allowed him to inspire and mentor numerous teachers, students and other band directors. |
| You can find Marcus at the Gazebo in downtown Medina during the summers conducting the Medina Community Band or as John Phillip Sousa conducting his own professional band, the Sounds of Sousa Band. As Sousa, Marcus had performed for over 200,000 people including a Sousa-style concert in Saratov Russia. |
| The "Distinguished Service Award" will be presented by the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) in Cincinnati on January 29, at their general session prior to the performance of the OMEA All-State Choir. |
