Women of Distinction, Leadership Style

Leadership Medina County Alumni were not only honored but well represented as the YWCA of Medina County presented their 19th Annual Women of Distinction Awards at a luncheon recently. Susan Vlcek, ’01, Program Coordinator for Junior Leadership Medina County and a 1998 award winner, was the MC. She greeted the audience and the “remarkable” women present. Janie Parish,’09, Hospice of Medina County and 2005 recipient, gave the invocation.

Commissioner Pat Geissman,’00 presented the awards to this year’s honorees. She was one herself in 2000. Honored were Bethany Dentler, ’10, Executive Director of Medina County Economic Development Corporation, Joannie Neff, ’97, Sales Manager at A-1 World Truck Towing & Recovery Inc., Diana Riley, ’05 Manager of Community Affairs at RPM International, Inc. and Kim Wilson, ’07, Nonprofit Sales Manager at ChadAllan Consulting, LLC.

Despite demanding careers and active families, these women dedicate precious time to causes that stir their hearts. Bethany serves the Salvation Army of Medina, Joannie-the American Cancer Society, Diana-Medina County Community Fund and Kim-Medina County Children’s Center, just to name of few.

Keynote speaker Patricia A. Millhoff, J.D, shared the story of Lilly Ledbetter a women seeking equal pay for equal work through the US Justice System. Patricia challenged the audience to be a “Lilly” in pursuit a worthwhile cause. She concluding with Margaret Mead’s observation, “Never doubt a small group of thoughtful committed people can change the world, indeed it is the only thing that ever has.”
