The first day, facilitator Craig Rider of the Rider Group took up the challenge to build the class into a team where everybody knows “all” names. Personality temperaments were presented and class members learned about personal leadership styles and the “Platinum Rule.” According to the Platinum rule one must seek to understand others.

Therefore, classmates worked with “their” type and then worked with other temperaments. Serious conversations about best practices were interspersed with laughter and exercises to better understand the many ways others process ideas.

Most LMC Alumni can sympathize with the “tarp” exercise and other after dinner activities. This year, creative “leadership” songs were composed and sung by many, who if asked, have vowed never to sing in public again.

A special thanks to Westfield Insurance President, Jim Clay, ’94, for hosting an evening social hour on the patio so the new class could meet the LMC Board and other community leaders. This is the 20th year that Westfield’s president has been our gracious host.

The second day, George Paidas of Embros, LLC guided the class in thoughtful discussions on leadership and leadership competencies which will be continued throughout each class day. Leadership goes hand in hand with lifelong learning. One class member wrote, “to think outside of ones own characteristics/qualities on how to become an effective leader is truly valuable.” This sets the tone for the year.

The facilities at Westfield are geared to encourage interaction, team building, a bit of relaxation, some “gourmet” meals and memorable times. The class is really a class. The names are known, the year begins.
