Connections

With our junior leaders, connections perhaps have an even greater significance. And these links may take on a different shape and purpose.
On our January Business and Career Day, class members saw and heard how cooperation and networking among committed leaders led to our county’s designation of having the most effective community recycling program in the U.S.
They heard from LMC Executive Director Lucy Sondles, as she shared a valuable etiquette lesson, how connecting over a meal can have quite positive, even unintended, results.
These are more traditional, expected forms of connectivity, and of great value. What we also strive to show our young people is another equally valuable connection to the exemplary leaders that impact Medina County.
The day concluded with a panel discussion/Q&A moderated by Jon Park, President of Westfield Bank and member of the LMC Class of 2003. It was during this time that students heard from Patty Boyert, owner/operator of Boyert’s Greenhouse and Farms, Steve Chrisman, Principal of the Medina County Career Center, Kurt Kappa, Vice President and Commercial Loan Officer at Westfield Bank, and Seth Kujat, Executive Director of United Way of Medina County.

These community leaders shared more than their professional contributions. They shared the journey that has led them from their high school days to their current station. They told personal stories of doubts, shifting motivations, turning points, winding paths, and finding fulfillment through following their passions.
Our class members departed that day feeling truly connected to these leaders – connected to their feelings of uncertainty, of working to find their strengths, and of hoping to make a positive impact on their world.

We are grateful for the support of so many fine leaders who contribute to our Junior Leadership program in so many ways. The gift you give may last a lifetime.
