As the event began, a weather front moved into the area bringing with it wind, thunder, lightning and the possibility of tornados causing sirens to blare. It became necessary to evacuate everyone to the lower level (pictured). After a harrowing few minutes, the attendees returned to the dining room, checked their cell phones to make sure all was safe at home. Then graduation resumed, welcoming the Class of 2011, “The Emerald Class,” into the ranks of over 700 LMC alumni. |

Another "first" for this Leadership Medina County class is accomplishing a trio of class projects. Projects were submitted by local nonprofits, reviewed by the class and 3 were chosen. Class members then selected the one that best suited their time and talents. Although each project was completely unique each had quite an impact on a segment of Medina County with the promise of future benefits.

Devising a Fund Development Plan for the Medina County Historical Society was one of the projects. This class team provided a SWOT analysis and each team member became a "Friend" of the society. Suggestions ranged from improved maketing to using new technology. Pictured are Meredith Waite Gilpin and her family. Meredith's grandmother (seated) was a resource for this project providing much of the history to the team. |

The next class project team wanted to spread the message "to stop smoking " to a variety of age groups. A “Smoke Out” Candlelight Vigil was held for families, a web site was devised in conjunction with the Medina County Tobacco Prevention Coalition and YouTube Video was made for that Gen X, Y generation. “Time-Talent-Treasure” was an event orchestrated by the third class project team with the idea of connecting Medina County’s non-profit and business communities over a breakfast and "speed dating" concept. Time, talent and treasure is what every nonprofit can use and business can invest in their employees and their communities by sevicing a variety of nonprofits. All 8 nonprofits found volunteers to help their cause. |
The class received lapel pins, paper weights, from LMC Secretary George Wiswesser and President Brian Fisher along with commendations from the Medina County Commissiners and Commednations from the Ohio House of Representatives. Each class member's representative acknowledging their achievement in becoming a member of Leadership Medina County. |
