Class Projects, a Bonus to Medina County

Every Leadership Medina County Class has completed a class service project.  Not only does each class give back to the community but each class gains back an opportunity to hone leadership skills and better understand civic engagement.  The following is a list of past projects organized by category, with the class year in parenthesis.

Education/Informative:

·       Brought the Ohio Supreme Court to Medina County and hold court session in Medina HS open to all HS in the county.  (1992)

·       Presented a day long forum about Growth in Medina County featured national speakers and discussion sessions. (1994)

·       Presented a day long Grant Information Seminar for all nonprofits in Medina County, featuring a panel of grantors and group discussion. (2001)

·       Presented the Disney Institute, Keys of Excellence Seminar (the same Institute from Disneyland in Florida), a day long session. (2002)

·       Piloted the Junior Leadership Medina County program for junior and sophomore students in Medina County’s high schools. (2003)  This was adopted by the LMC Board.

·       Brought David Thomas, a national speaker to Medina County to talk about Integrity and share his experiences. (2004)

·       Provided “Ultimate Success,” 6 special life skills training sessions to foster teens who were 18 and leaving the foster care system. (2005) 

Funding/Financing

·       Established the Leadership Medina County Endowment Fund to provide for the financial security for Leadership Medina County. (1996)

Environment

·       Provided a grove of trees at the new Medina County University Center to recognize the balance of both growth and green space in Medina County. (2007)

Partner/Work/Help other non-profit organizations or groups:

·       Established “Leader-Serve” a resource of class members who would be willing to help find solutions for non-profit organizations (1993) no longer in use

·       Worked on a house for “Habitat for Humanity.” (1995)

·       Provided a booth on Human Services in Medina County for everyone who attended “Family-a-Fair.” (1997)

·       Collected and gave new toys to the Community Service Center. (1998)

·       Sponsored the “Polar Express” for 2 classes of elementary school students. (1999)

·       Became a Founding Donor of the Women’s and Children’s Endowment Fund. (2000)

·       Rehabilitated (with other organizations) a house into a life skills training center for Medina Creative Housing and their special needs clients. (2006)

·       Supported the Medina County National Guard Unit Deployed to Kuwait and the families by sending care packages and letters, and money for a homecoming party.  They heightened awareness of and supported the troops throughout the year. (2008)

·       Supported the Medina County Coalition of Food Pantries through a major food drive in May, food drives at work and by volunteering at a local food pantry of choice. They donated 16,000 lbs of food (2009)

·       Assembled boxes of information “Resources for Troubled Times” including guides for agency help, workforce development, health tips, free activities, gas cards, food cards, etc to the newly unemployed in Medina County. (2010)
